Even-handed by design
The aim is to describe how the repair industry actually works, not to build a case for or against anyone in it. Where a manufacturer's, retailer's or repairer's stated reasoning holds up against the evidence, that is reported as readily as where it does not. A finding is reported because it is true and useful to a reader, not because it fits a conclusion decided in advance.
Manufacturer claims
Where a post quotes what a manufacturer says, the quote is taken from that manufacturer's own published material: a support page, a press release, a filing, a product page. A link to the original is given, and a copy of the page as it read at the time is archived, because a manufacturer can edit or remove a page later without notice. If a claim can no longer be verified against a live page, the archived copy is what the post relies on and says so.
Testing
Where a post describes something as tested, the post states what was tested, how many units or attempts were involved, which model or model variant was used, and what was controlled for. A single repair on a single device is reported as exactly that, not generalised into "repairs always fail" or similar. Claims that have not been tested are never presented as if they had been; they are reported as claims, with their source, and left there.
Right of reply
Any company named in connection with something serious and specific, such as a fault, a failure or a practice that could damage its reputation, is contacted and asked for comment before publication wherever there is time to do so. If a company responds, the response is quoted or summarised fairly. If a company does not respond by the time a post is published, that is reported plainly, for example "contacted for comment, did not respond by publication" - not spun into an implication of guilt, and not omitted.
Opinion and findings
Findings are the facts a post has gathered: what a document says, what a test showed, what a company said or did not say. Opinion is a judgement on top of those facts, and it is always marked as opinion, kept in its own section of the page, and never mixed into the findings themselves. Any opinion given rests only on facts stated on the same page, so it can be checked against the evidence next to it rather than taken on trust.
Corrections
Errors are corrected as soon as they are found, and the correction is logged with a date and a description of what changed. See Correctionsfor the full record.
